6. Display Screen Equipment (DSE)

  • Applies to most computer screens/VDUs used regularly at work.
  • The material identifies users working at the equipment for at least an hour at a time on a more or less daily basis.
  • Does not apply to displays in drivers' cabs, cash registers or calculators.
  • Assess risks and reduce them.
  • Provide suitable seating, correct posture and workstation layout.
  • Consider document holders and footrests.
  • Reduce glare by repositioning screens or using blinds.
  • Organise work to allow breaks away from the screen.
  • Provide eye checks/eyesight tests when requested.
  • Provide information and health and safety training.
