8. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • PPE includes equipment worn or held to protect a person at work, such as helmets, gloves, eye protection and protective clothing.
  • Normal uniform-type workwear is not normally PPE.
  • PPE should be the last resort after controlling risks at source where possible.
  • PPE must be suitable for its intended purpose and appropriately approved where required.
  • Maintain and replace PPE when worn or defective.
  • Train employees in its use.
  • Employees must use PPE provided and report loss or defects.
