16. LOLER – Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998
LOLER covers equipment used for lifting or lowering loads and relevant attachments/fixings/supports.
Equipment must be suitable in strength and application.
Equipment must be correctly positioned and secured for a stable lift.
Safe working loads must be clearly marked where required, including different configurations and equipment designed to lift people.
Employees need practical and theoretical knowledge of lifting equipment and its risks.
Carry out a risk assessment for lifting operations.
Equipment must be maintained, examined and inspected by a competent person.
The material states inspection every 12 months for equipment subject to deterioration, or every 6 months for lifting people, unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer.
