Introduction Two main sets of rules affect record keeping for goods vehicle drivers: EU Regulation 165/2014 (incorporated into UK law) and UK Domestic rules. EU record-keeping rules apply to most goods vehicles over 3,500 kg permissible maximum weight (PMW), including trailers. Domestic rules apply to goods vehicles not exceeding 3,500 kg PMW and vehicles specifically exempt from the EU rules. Working Time Regulations also require employers to keep records demonstrating compliance with working-time and night-work limits. When travelling abroad, drivers may be subject to EU/AETR record-keeping rules depending on the countries travelled to and through. Since 2010, AETR record-keeping and drivers' hours requirements have been closely aligned with EU requirements.
