5. Letter of Attestation

  • A letter of attestation is no longer normally required to establish missing periods of activity.
  • Drivers should make retrospective manual entries for activities carried out away from the vehicle when they resume driving.
  • If an older tachograph cannot accept manual entries, a letter of attestation may still be used in the circumstances described by the material.
  • It must not be used to prove missing daily or weekly rest periods.
  • Normal missing daily/weekly rest can be entered retrospectively, although the material states this is not a legal requirement.
  • Longer-than-normal rest should be recorded retrospectively by manual entry or on the back of a printout.
  • False attestations constitute an infringement.
