9. Quick Exam Numbers – Memorise These

  • EU record keeping → most goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes PMW, including trailers.
  • Four digital tachograph cards: Driver (white), Company (yellow), Workshop (red), Control (blue).
  • Driver card → 5 years; download at least every 28 days.
  • VU → download at least every 90 days.
  • Lost/stolen/damaged driver card → report within 7 days.
  • Driving without a replacement card → normally maximum 15 days, subject to the stated exception for returning to base.
  • Analogue chart → complete centre-field details at start and end of duty.
  • Driver keeps current day + previous 28 calendar days of records.
  • Charts should be returned to the employer within 42 days.
  • Analogue tachograph → inspect every 2 years and recalibrate every 6 years.
  • Digital tachograph → full recalibration every 2 years.
  • Tachograph accuracy → speed ±6 km/h, distance ±4%, time ±2 min/day or ±10 min/7 days.
  • Tachograph failure → make manual records and repair as soon as possible.
  • Domestic record book → return within 7 days; employer checks and countersigns.
  • Domestic driver keeps the book for 14 days after return from the employer.
  • Employer keeps Domestic records for at least 1 year.
  • Police/DVSA can request records; operator must provide them within 10 days.
  • False/fraudulent records can be seized and may lead to prosecution and loss of O-licence/LGV entitlement.
