8. GROUPAGE OPERATOR

  • A groupage operator accepts small consignments from customers.
  • The consignments are consolidated at the operator's warehouse or depot.
  • Vehicles are loaded with consolidated loads and run at frequent intervals to specified destinations.
  • At the destination, the loads are broken down for local delivery of individual consignments.
  • Key idea: small consignments are combined into larger/unit loads to make transport more efficient.
