INTRODUCTION Plating and testing ensures goods vehicles subject to the regulations are not operated above their maximum axle weights or gross vehicle weights. It also checks that mechanical condition conforms to standards laid down in the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (C & U Regulations). These conditions apply not only at the Department for Transport test, but throughout the ensuing twelve months. Plating and Testing is carried out on behalf of the DfT by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) at testing stations across the country.
