3. MANUFACTURERS' PLATES

  • Motor vehicles and trailers must also have a manufacturer’s plate containing particulars required by the C & U Regulations.
  • For motor vehicles, the plate includes the manufacturer name, vehicle type, engine type and power, chassis/serial number (VIN), number of axles, maximum permitted weight on each axle, maximum gross weight, and maximum train weight.
  • For trailers and semi-trailers, the relevant information is shown with the vehicle and engine details omitted.
  • Trailer and semi-trailer plates must additionally show the year of manufacture.
  • The manufacturer’s plate is metal, fitted at manufacture, and usually attached to the chassis or inside the driver’s cab.
