2. Categories of Entitlement

2.1 Category B

  • Allows driving of rigid vehicles not exceeding 3,500 kg MAM.
  • Also covers the relevant car entitlement.

2.2 Category C1

  • Allows driving of rigid goods vehicles exceeding 3,500 kg but not exceeding 7,500 kg MAM.
  • C1 is the smaller vocational goods vehicle category.

2.3 Category C

  • Allows driving of rigid goods vehicles exceeding 7,500 kg MAM.
  • Category C is the main rigid large goods vehicle entitlement.

2.4 Category B+E

  • Allows a Category B vehicle to tow a trailer.

2.5 Category C1+E

  • Allows a C1 vehicle to tow a trailer.
  • The training material states a maximum overall MAM of 12,000 kg.

2.6 Category C+E

  • Allows a Category C vehicle to tow a trailer.
  • C+E covers articulated vehicles and rigid/drawbar trailer combinations.
  • There is no need for a separate +E qualification where the trailer does not exceed 750 kg MAM.
