4. Preserved Entitlement

4.1 Category Restriction 107

  • Drivers who passed their Category B test before 1 January 1997 could have been granted preserved C1 and C1+E entitlements.
  • Preserved C1+E entitlement is restricted to vehicle/trailer combinations with MAM not exceeding 8,250 kg.
  • The licence is endorsed with Category Restriction 107.
  • New drivers cannot obtain this entitlement simply by having a pre-1997 Category B test; it is a preserved historic entitlement.

4.2 Category Restriction 102

  • A limited C+E entitlement was preserved for certain drivers who held older HGV entitlements.
  • It allows rigid/drawbar trailer combinations.
  • It does not allow the driver to drive articulated vehicles.

The licence is endorsed with Category Restriction 102.
