9.1 Issue of DQC

• After all required test modules are passed, the driver receives the vocational driving licence and Driver CPC Qualification Card (DQC).
• The DQC must be carried when driving where the Driver CPC requirement applies.
• The material states that fines can apply where the DQC is not carried.

9.2 Periodic Driver CPC Training

• Drivers must complete at least 35 hours of approved periodic training every 5 years to maintain Driver CPC qualification.
• The 35 hours normally equals 5 training days.
• Up to 12 hours may consist of e-learning according to the training material.
• Training is generally delivered in blocks of 7 hours per training day, or two 3½-hour courses.
• Training topics can include drivers' hours and records, fuel-efficient driving, safe loading, first aid, customer service, lorry-mounted crane operation and defect reporting.
• Training providers and individual courses must be approved by JAUPT.
• Training completion is uploaded electronically by the training provider to the DVSA database.
• Drivers must complete the required 35 hours every 5 years.

9.3 Driver CPC Exemptions

• The Driver CPC qualification is not required in the circumstances listed by the training material.
• Vehicle being road-tested after maintenance or repair.
• Vehicle being driven to or from a pre-booked official testing station.
• Vehicle being driven to prepare for or take a driving licence acquisition test or Driver CPC test.
• Goods carried on a non-commercial basis, including personal use, where the journey is not intended to generate a profit.
• Vehicle driven within 100 km of the driver's base when not carrying goods.
• Vehicle carrying materials or equipment to be used in the course of the driver's work.
