19. Quick Exam Numbers – Memorise These

  • B = up to 3,500 kg MAM.
  • C1 = over 3,500 kg up to 7,500 kg MAM.
  • C = over 7,500 kg MAM.
  • C1+E = C1 plus trailer, with the training-material maximum overall MAM of 12,000 kg.
  • C+E = Category C plus trailer; covers artics and rigid/drawbar combinations.
  • Trailer up to 750 kg MAM does not normally require a separate +E qualification.
  • C+E is staged: pass B, then C, then C+E.
  • Preserved Restriction 107 = C1+E combination limited to 8,250 kg MAM.
  • Preserved Restriction 102 = rigid/drawbar only; no articulated vehicles.
  • D2 = provisional vocational application; D4 = medical report.
  • Five test modules: theory, hazard perception, CPC case studies, practical driving, CPC practical.
  • Theory: 100 questions, 85 to pass.
  • Hazard perception: 19 clips, 67/100 to pass according to the material.
  • CPC case studies: 7 scenarios, 50 marks, 40 to pass.
  • 35 hours Driver CPC periodic training every 5 years.
  • Vocational licences: maximum 5 years for new entitlements in the material.
  • From 45: medical examination every 5 years; from 65: every year.
  • Traffic Commissioners can suspend or revoke vocational entitlement for conduct issues.
  • Police/DVSA can check licence categories and DQC.
  • Employer must regularly check licence validity, correct entitlement, DQC and minimum age.
  • International journeys may require an IDP, employer authorisation letter or driver attestation depending on the country and driver status.
